"Several churches partially collapsed and schools were forced to evacuate following the earthquake," said Gordon, describing the late-night tremor as a "sleeper" that "crept up on us." In Daanbantayan, located just north of Bogo, the facade of St. Rita Church collapsed, while a significant crack was reported on the side of the Municipal Hall. Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro highlighted the damage, stating, "The current situation in Daanbantayan highlights the severe impact of the earthquake on heritage structures, which form part of Cebu's rich cultural and spiritual identity," in a post on Facebook.
