WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Monday warned that Europe is heading in "very bad directions", in another strong remark just days after his new security strategy criticized the continent over large-scale migration.
Trump also criticized a "nasty" US$140 million fine imposed by the European Union on Elon Musk's social media platform, X. Although he admitted he wasn't fully aware of the details, before expanding on his concerns.

X has blocked the European Commission from placing advertisements on its platform. A move that comes just days after the commission fined Elon Musk's site 120 million euro (RM596 million) over its blue tick verification badges.
Nikita Bier, a senior executive at the social media platform, accused the European Union (EU) regulator of attempting to "take advantage" of a loophole in the advertising system to promote its post about the fine last Friday. "It appears that you believe the rules do not apply to your account," he said. "Your ad account has been terminated."

Elon Musk has called for the European Union to be abolished after the bloc fined his social media company X 120 million euro for a "deceptive" blue checkmark and lack of transparency in its advertising database.
The European Commission issued the fine on Friday following a two-year investigation into the company under the Digital Services Act (DSA), which was introduced in 2022 to regulate online platforms. In response to a post from the Commission on X, Musk wrote, "Bulls---."
